The Proof Ike Dollar entered circulation with a 40% silver composition in 1971. The 40% silver Proof Ike Dollar was produced from 1971 - 1976. Proof Eisenhower Dollars of copper-nickel clad composition were produced from 1973 - 1978 before being replaced by the Susan B. Anthony Dollar in 1979. The obverse of the Proof Eisenhower Dollar features a bust of General of the Army and President of the United States Dwight David Eisenhower. It was designed by Frank Gasparro. The reverse of the Proof Eisenhower Dollar from 1971 - 1974 and 1977-1978 feature the Apollo 11 Mission patch commemorating the moon landing of 1969.
